Welcome to the Kansas Migrant Education PASS Program!

The Portable Assisted Study Sequence (PASS) program offers high school students a chance to earn credit for missed or incomplete courses, helping them stay on track for graduation. Learning packages are available for most required subjects and a variety of elective courses. Some courses are offered in both English and Spanish, and some are available for grades 6-8 (“Middle School PASS”) to ease the transition to high school.

PASS courses offer great flexibility, allowing the student to progress through five activity books and accompanying tests at his or her own pace. Because of this structure, students are able to continue course work as they move from district to district or even from state to state.

The National PASS Center provides leadership for national PASS efforts, oversees course development and revisions, and serves as a clearinghouse and repository. The Project PASS office in Eudora, KS is one of several PASS Material Dissemination Centers across the country.

PASS (Portable Assisted Study Sequence) provides student choice, is flexible to meet differentiated student needs, and is portable. Courses are developed to help students earn credits and graduate with academic diplomas from their high schools. Flexibility in administering PASS enhances opportunities for students in a variety of settings. PASS consists of self-contained, semi-independent study courses. The program is provided by The National PASS Coordinating Committee comprised of migrant educators across the country and is used in more than 25 states, including Kansas.
The Kansas Migrant Education Program (KSMEP) has been working since 1967 to ensure that migratory children in the state fully benefit from the same free public education provided to other students. To achieve this, the MEP supports educational programs for migratory children to help reduce the educational disruptions and other problems that result from repeated moves. KSMEP is federally funded under Title I, Part C of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 as part of the Kansas State Department of Education. Students who qualify for the program are identified and recruited by local agencies (or “projects”) throughout the state, and those local projects are responsible for providing services to those enrolled in the program.
